Auto Body Collision Repair 101

Remember: If you are involved in an accident in Oregon you must file a report with Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services (the DMV) within 72 hours if and when:

  • Damage to the vehicle is more than $2,500
  • Property damage (other than the vehicle involved) is more than $2,500
  • A vehicle is towed from the accident scene
  • If injury or death results from the accident

In Oregon, you have 72 hours to file an accident report. Failing to do so may result in the suspension of your driving privileges.

In Washington, it’s a little different. You are not required to file an accident report if the accident has been investigated by a police officer who has already filed a police report. You can still file a report of your own if you think the officer hasn’t accurately reported the details of the accident.
